Yandex outage halts taxis and cloud in Kazakhstan

According to profit.kz, a failure of Yandex's data centers left people in Kazakhstan without a range of everyday digital services. Taxi and delivery services stopped working, and local businesses found their cloud infrastructure unavailable.

The lesson is that many services we use daily rest on the data centers of a single provider. When one node goes down, the whole chain stops: the order, the payment, the bookkeeping. The more of a company's processes hang on one cloud, the more expensive such a stoppage becomes.

This week, list which of your company's systems depend on a single provider: accounting, CRM, email, telephony. Find out what staff do when a service is unavailable, and whether you have backup data exports and a manual procedure for that case. Name an owner and write the plan down before you need it.
